Dark, edgy, and combustible - perfect for fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "True Blood" to sink their teeth into.Jane Grimshaw is the deadly mix of witch and succubus, an assassin proclaimed 'Phoenyx.' Feared and respected among many, she is a beautiful face dreaded by the enemy. At her lowest, a mysterious vampire called Ash steps into her shadow. Emotions are running on high heat; every touch Ash and Jane share spark desire and guilt on both sides. But Ash isn't the only one keeping secrets - and with the Devil in play, a battle of biblical proportions looms on the horizon. You cannot stand in a fire and not be consumed...***This book is fourth in the series. I recommend beginning with Phoenyx in Flames, followed by Phoenyx Falling and From Within as they should be read in order to fully appreciate the storyline. These books do end in cliffhangers with two more books planned until THE END.

Well, it was a long wait for book number four, but a wait that was well worth it. I have said it in my other reviews of book 1-3 and I say it again this is a series that must be read in order because it follows the life of Jane Grimshaw (The Phoenyx). It begins from the day she discovered who and what she is, the losses she has suffered and who her relatives are. They are quite a unique mix. Her uncle is a warlock, her father was Lazarus, her maternal grandfather killed her mother and Lucifer, yes, the Devil himself is her other grandfather. Her close friend is a sand demon and her lover was a vampire!. This alone should indicate how important it is to read this series in order.

After Judas’ death Jane decided she had enough and left her friends and relatives behind to fend for themselves. No longer around to help keep the peace, her friend Cortez could no longer keep up with the violence in his bar and was forced to close it for good. Her uncle was beside himself worrying about her and the only one she had any contact with was Ash once her arch nemesis’ second in command and a vampire Jane doesn’t trust but still keeps meeting up with for some sparring.

Spider and Lilith, Jane’s half-sister, are plotting Jane’s demise but they are also after The Book of Prophecy, a book that will reveal Jane’s part in destroying the world. The fear is that if Jane doesn’t return, she could raise Hell on Earth. But convincing her that she is not the monster she believes she is and getting her to deal with her powers will not be easy. When the people you love die around you it is hard not to believe you are responsible in one way or another. Her new power is prokinetic;just with her eyes she can set anything or anyone on fire something she has yet to control.

Jane fights her feelings for Ash unwilling to begin another relationship she is sure will end in death, while Ash tries to prove his feelings for her are real and that they belong together. As a witch, succubus hybrid Jane feeds off emotions of men but Ash is the only one capable of satisfying her hunger. The back and forth between Ash and Jane was hot and aggravating at times, he pushes forward and she backs away.

Lilith, Spider and Lucifer all want one thing and that thing is Jane. The fight is on but it will be a battle of good and evil and it is a battle that will not end with this book since there are two more books to come. As with all the books in this series it ended in a cliffhanger. My only hope is that the wait for book five will not be as long as the wait for book four.
