Zeli’s signature pop diva sound and image are nothing short of magical—literally. Her fame comes with hidden costs, a curse that could ruin her voice forever.
Aspiring indie musician, Justin MacKenzie, is determined to kick it to the top of the Rampion Records’ Summer Number One professional vs. amateur singing competition.

The author takes a very modern and interesting approach to building a fairy tale. Zeli, the cursed damsel, is a pop star princess with an attitude, and Justin, the hero of the story, is a BASE jumper with rock star dreams. The story is told mostly from Justin’s viewpoint, and his introspective moments are nicely crafted to give the reader a chance to empathize with him. Zeli’s potential peril at the hands of a modernized fairy tale villain is the motivation that pushes Justin to keep fighting for his dream even when certain conflicts look impossible to resolve. All the way to the last chapter, Justin keeps encountering new challenges, which strengthen his evolving character and keep the reader turning pages to see what impossible event will happen next.
The language of the narrative has a modern pop style that might send you hunting for the Urban Dictionary, but it adds an important element to the setting of the story. The backdrop for this fairy tale adventure ranges from a pop star’s high tower in Hollywood to the vandal ridden alleys of Hollywood Boulevard at night. The vibrant descriptions of Zeli’s interesting talents, Justin’s BASE jumping exploits, and the atmosphere of a music festival all create wonderful visuals. A few visuals might require a second read to puzzle out the setup since the action and the scenery are intertwined, and the action only stops for a few tender moments and a couple of steamy ones.
This was a fast paced and very engaging read, with a constantly evolving main character and a colorful cast. The adventure wraps up nicely, and ends with a hint of what is next in the Rockin’ Fairy Tales series. This is a great read if you are looking for an action-packed modern fairy tale with aspiring rock stars who fall from the sky.
