I read this second book of the series without the benefit of the first. It tells you what great world building and strength of characters are evident in this series because I was immediately drawn into the narrative, and had no issues being invested in the story. My favorite part of this book was the strength of the main character, Sakota. She is truly the heroine of her own story. Her interactions with her own crew and the new aliens they encounter are easy to identify with.
The pacing of the action kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot also had enough detail to allow the reader to visualize the different worlds without bogging down the pace of the action. I truly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to fans of science fiction who want a great weekend read.
