Val Royal’s tight family has always had his back, but they love to interfere in his life. That interference almost sends him over the edge when they arrange for Rory McCauley, security specialist, marksman, and hound-dog smartass, to ride shotgun as security on his latest run.

Hot, bossy, and sharp as a tack, Val ticks all Rory’s boxes, but Val’s looking for something real, and Rory’s allergic to intimacy. Besides, their gig running refrigerated bull semen from Bakersfield to Austin could make or break Val’s buddy’s ranch, so Val’s understandably pretty focused on the job. Rory still wishes Val would let him help Val, uh, ***relax.***

As Val and Rory work to keep their payload safe from a couple of determined saboteurs and they get to know each other as smart, competent, fearless professionals, sparks fly, and Val starts to fall for Rory’s roguish charm. But can he convince Rory their romance would be worth more than a straight shot to Austin—that it would be a love worth coming home to?

This is the start of a new series from Amy Lane, an early Christmas gift. This story is about Val Royal and Rory McCauley but since the royal family has sex boys and one girl there will be plenty more coming.

Val has been hired by his friend Vinnie to transport bull jizz (sperm) to a lab for testing and this is the third try since the first two were robbed. After a discussion by Val’s brothers and sister discussing the fact that he is lonely and trying to come up with a solution they decided that his brother Dean would not ride shotgun, and they would send Rory McCauley instead.

Rory is a retired FBI agent and now does security work and runs his gun training business with his son. When Val meets Rory, he is shocked that he isn’t what he expected, a greying, potbellied, short man instead he is tall and quite handsome. Rory is forty-eight and Val is forty so there isn’t that much difference in age. Rory immediately begins to flirt with Val, but Val is looking for something other than a here today gone tomorrow.

When they arrive at the place to pick up the bull sperm the place is in shambles, the cows that are there don’t appear to be normal, and the refrigeration is not up to par. At the first rest stop Val calls his brother Proctor to investigate the refrigeration system and he is able to make repairs so that the sperm will make it to the lab for testing. Val and Rory immediately feel there is something not right, but his friend will lose everything if the sperm doesn’t make it.

Their suspicions are right when they are attacked at their first rest stop. Val is certain that the two men are the brothers who own the place they just left and now they must do everything possible to stay away from them. Fortunately, Proctor had found two trackers when he was fixing the refrigeration unit but in a huge rig staying hidden is not easy.

One attack after another but Val and Rory keep on keeping on. Rory doesn’t stop his lustful advances toward Val and Val just keeps on turning him down. Rory has a story, an ex-wife, and a son but his story is one you have to find out for yourself.

The trip to the lab was a constant struggle and it was very suspenseful. Every attack left me at the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see whose story will be next, five gay brothers, a sister who is a widow so many to choose from.
