Josephine Brevil is a witch that was able to escape the horrendous torture inflicted on her during the Salem Witch Trials and now is sent by the Order on jobs where a witch is necessary.
Her newest job is in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, but she has no idea why she was sent there, no curses, no demons and no spells that she can detect so it is still mission unknown. Josephine decides to get a job to fit in and begins to work for an ice cream parlor where she manages to put just a little dab of magic into the ice cream and it makes people happy which makes the store owner happy since customers are coming in in droves.
When Josephine sees an old Victorian house which appears to be vacant she can’t resist opening the lock and stepping inside and when she comes face to face with a man who is apparently not a ghost or demon she is shocked. The man is Clarence Watts and he has no problem recognizing that the woman standing in front of him is a witch and could help him since he is convinced the house is haunted.
Clarence lost the use of one of his legs and his wife in a boating accident two years ago and has not left the house since, Josephine was the first person he has spoken to in person for a long time and she is willing to help him get rid of his ghost, his wife Heidi who needs to leave and find peace.
Clarence realizes that he has very strong feelings for Josephine and wants her to stay but if she choses a mortal she loses her magic and her immortality and that is a very high price to pay for love. A beautiful love story with a flying broomstick and surprises.
