Huxley Abelard lives and fights alongside the immortals of the Blue Hills as a human, but he’s always felt something…more. A prophecy foretells that a mortal will ascend to become a god in the Underworld, but Hux’s wicked past could cost him the throne and the sexy doctor who haunts his days and nights. He can’t imagine a decent woman wanting a man who has done the things he’s done to survive.
Doctor Dani-Lee Whitehill has loved and lusted for Huxley since the first moment she laid eyes on him. Unfortunately, he's made it quite clear that, although he's attracted to her, he'd rather cut off his male parts than get them anywhere near her. She’s willing to play by his hands-off rules, but desire may quickly erode her patience and when it does, Hux could be royally screwed.

Agent Candy Lane is on leave from the DEA when she is blackmailed by Miranda Worthington to find twenty-seven year old Huxley Abelard. Thanks to her fellow agent Ken Dunsky, Miranda has Candy’s file and if she doesn’t take the job the file will be turned over to the drug king she helped capture. As an agent Candy has located more than her share of people but this is a case that will bring her into a world she could never have imagined existed.
Candy finds Huxley and manages to follow him to the mansion where he and the gods and goddesses reside. Huxley is a human and the only other human is Dr. Dani-Lee Whitehill who has been helping when any of the gods need it. Huxley is no ordinary human because he has royal god lines and it is prophesied that a warrior will avert global disaster, is he that warrior?
When Candy is taken in an attempt is made to wipe her memory only her training made her capable of blocking their attempts. The only other alternative was for Candy to stay. Enlil the wind god and her take an instant dislike to each other and Candy’s language is quite colorful especially where he is concerned.
The search for Queen Ereshkigal is still on and Nergal the king of the underworld is doing everything he can to bring her home. The only one that can search for her is Huxley since the gods give off energy that would be immediately picked up by Beletseri the rogue goddess that has Ereshkigal. When Huxley is advised that Dani must accompany him everytime he leaves the mansion he is shocked, although he has kissed her a few times he tries very hard to stay far away from her, he believes she is too good for him and he has a secret he does not wish to share with anyone especially her.
Dani is only too happy to accompany Huxley since she has always been attracted to him and since the first kiss she has wanted him. So now the gods have to protect Candy from a kingpin, get Huxley out from under Worthington and save the queen, nothing to it right? Every night Nergal is able to mentally converse with Ereshkigal and she is starting to sound weak they have to find her before it is too late. She also reveals to him something she learned, something that exposed Beletseri as a bigger monster than they thought and something that had changed the relationship between the king and the queen for centuries.
I love this series each book is about a specific character even though there is a background story that follows from book to book. There is sex, secrets, betrayals and surprises. I enjoyed how Dani pursued Huxley and how he ran whenever she got too close, but how long can he keep away from her? Will Huxley and Dani with the help of Candy finally bring the queen home? Will Dani finally catch Huxley? I was never bored since there was always something happening.
