Welcome to the Fillery Hotel, home to the Bells and Balls Convention, and last stop for a runaway fairy prince and the grumpy demon hunter who loves him.

Dick Slumber is a growly demon hunter with a three-legged cat he doesn’t want and a secret he must keep at all costs. But Dick has a problem—he’s not who he says he is, and he’s running out of ways to hide it.

Gin Lark is a feisty fairy prince whose job is to help his sister keep demons out of the human realm. But Gin has a problem—he doesn’t possess an ounce of magic, and somebody wants him dead.

When Gin goes into hiding as a hotel housekeeper, and Dick is hired to find him, they discover themselves in the center of a cursed hotel, a resurrected pinball convention with its own secrets, and a tear in the sky called the rift, which is about to let loose a horde of demons.

Falling in love should be the last thing on Dick and Gin’s to-do list—unless love is the only thing that can save them.

This review was by far the most confusing for me, I went between three stars and four stars since the book like this review was confusing. I really don’t know how to explain everything that went on in this book and it felt long and slow moving. So why four stars? I gave this book four stars because the middle of the book started to become interesting while still confusing and I couldn’t give three stars because I absolutely loved the two main characters, Dick Slumber and Gin Lark and last but not least Dick’s three-legged cat Axel aka Asshole Cat.

Dick is a demon and a demon hunter. It was his girlfriend Sarah who gifted him with Axel, a cat who only hisses at Dick, but in time Dick began to accept him. As a demon Dick is sorely lacking and a rift is going to open allowing demons to get through the veil causing his ability to hide who he is to disappear. He will be wanted by both humans and demons due to the fact that he works for an organization called K.I.S.S., Keepers of Incantations, Spells and Sigils. His new assignment is to find Elgin Woodwyn Solius Lark the fairy prince.

Elgin (Gin) is convinced that he is adopted having absolutely no magic and everything that a true fairy should be. His sister Poppy keeps telling him that his magic will someday appear but he definitely doesn’t believe it. When he is attacked in a library, he runs for his life determined to stay away from his home and sister for fear she will be in danger. Homeless, hungry and broke he steals beef sticks from a grocery store and is confronted by Dick offering him a meal and a place to stay.

It was the first night that Dick and Gin had sex but by the morning Cesar, the name he gave Dick disappears stealing money from Dick until he can find a job to repay him. Dick’s first concern is to find the prince and a picture given to him by Poppy shows him how close he was to Gin and the search continues. There is a hotel, The Fillery Hotel holding a convention of pinball players and this is where I was confused, why pinball and why is he partnered with someone named Zolly to play.

When Dick enters their room, he comes face to face with Gin now working at the hotel cleaning rooms and in the midst of changing the sheets. Dick knows that Gin is in danger and it brings the two of them together. Their feelings for each other grows but someone is after Gin and he is in constant danger. Gin loves his job and loves feeling normal, well as normal as he can feel when the hotel seems haunted and someone is out to get him.

What made the book enjoyable for me was Dick, Gin and Axel in spite of the fact that I felt totally confused at times. The ending was a huge surprise and one I didn’t see coming.
