This book has what I call the WOW factor: violence, sex, demons, betrayals, lies, secrets and major surprises. Of course, I must admit to reading it with all the lights on since there was some very graphic violence and some of them involved spiders, yuck.
Celina Leviet has been with her husband for seven years, five of them married. She lives in her dream house which her husband, Thomas, built for her and where she spends most of her time. Thomas is killed and she is shot and dying. She comes face to face with a demon who offers her the opportunity to live and avenge her husband’s death. The payment for the demon’s help is her life and soul.
Mekaisto is no ordinary demon; he is the demon feared by other demons and his thirst for violence knows no bounds. Kai will help her find and kill the one’s responsible for taking away the love of her life and she is willing to sacrifice her soul and life to do it. Unfortunately, while searching for the guilty people, she comes to find that Thomas was not the man she thought he was. He lied about his family and he lied about his business, a business that never existed. Despite feeling betrayed by him, she is still determined to find those responsible and make them suffer.
Celina’s journey is not without complications, she learns more about her parents who died in a car accident, she learns about her aunt who dragged her to church trying to save her soul. She also learns more about demons than she ever wanted to know and especially about Kai. She sees his evil up close when he saves her from his second in command Shiriki, who is experimenting on humans and trying to find out more about where the soul is. I won’t go into detail about what he does to these humans, but it is mind blowing.
Celina finds herself falling in love with Kai, who one minute is loving and the next a monster. She can’t help the fact that she loves two men, her dead husband and the demon she will owe her life and soul to. Celina also begins to show signs of evil and some of the things she sees would probably destroy a person’s mind, but she comes through it. Is Kai changing her into something like himself?
I was hooked from page one. The suspense and storyline just grew and grew with each page I read so I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and highly recommend this one to anyone who loves dark suspense, thriller, mystery, and romance. It is not a book for the faint of heart.
