Finn Conleth is the leader of the Huracan Enforcers whose job is to deal with fires in dragon form absorbing the flames into themselves while keeping who they are a secret. We touched on Finn in the prequel “The Mate” and learned how the female he believed was his mate died in his hands when he tried to put his fire into her. Since that tragic day he has never been the same and refuses to ever consider mating again. The death of Phoebe is all he sees whenever he even considers having sex with a woman and mating one is never going to happen, once again the saying “never say never” comes to mind.
A fire at a winery would bring Finn face to face with a human woman that sets off sparks in him and not the kind produced by fire. Delaney Hamilton has run from Vermont where she was being stalked by Graff Hughes and where fires always seemed to start wherever she was. Unsure if the fires were started by Graff or if she is responsible she ran only it seems once again the problem followed her.
Delaney has kept the secret about the fires and Graff but for some reason she feels she has to confess everything to Finn. She needs help and she has this trust for a man who is a virtual stranger. Finn’s first thought is that she might be a mate but there is no sign anywhere on her to indicate that is true. In spite of her being human he is determined to keep her safe and put an end to Graff and the fires he keeps starting.
Graff Hughes is convinced that Delaney is his mate and that the fires he starts will bring the mate sign out of her. He has already been responsible for the deaths of other potential mates since picking the wrong mate just leads to their death the way Finn’s intended mate died. He will stop at nothing to get Delaney and Finn is willing to stop at nothing to protect her in spite of her not being a mate.
The relationship between Delaney and Finn grows and as much as they tell themselves and each other that this is not a relationship but merely sex their hearts know different. Keeping a human at their headquarters and revealing who they are could lead to death for both Finn and Delaney and if she is indeed mate not turning her over to the Mating Council would be just as deadly to him.
There is a revolution beginning with rogue dragons who do not believe in the Mating Council’s way of finding a mate and who want mates to be found individually on their own. Finn always believed in following the rules and had faith in them but his feelings for Delaney are being to break down his beliefs. If she is indeed a mate and if she is his can he risk turning her over to the Council and to another dragon.
This book has everything you could want in a paranormal Romance, sex, suspense and sexy dragons. Delaney is a character you can’t help but love, she is strong and willing to go after what she wants, and what she wants is a sexy dragon named Finn. There is a traitor in Finn’s group and no doubt we will learn more about who it is and what he wants and I for one can’t wait.
