Rein, a Vampire mixed breed, plunged into the abyss of bludfrenzy. With icy resolve, he crawled out to become a Firebrand. He doesn’t make rash decisions.
Until…
Braelyn takes a shortcut through an alley musing about what she can’t have. A new job. Adventure. A cancer-free brain. Instead, she writes for a paranormal tabloid. No, she doesn’t believe such nonsense, but she’s heading to Cleveland on assignment. Oh, and her tumor is back.
Then…
Rein kidnaps her and takes her to his realm, igniting a fiery romance.
Meanwhile…
An ancient threat hunts for descendants of the Blood Coven who divided the world into three realms fifteen hundred years ago to protect humans from savage Aeternals. Then, they scattered across Earth, marrying, raising children, dying, burying their secrets in time. Generations grew, unaware of their legacy.
But…
Braelyn is squarely in the hunter’s sights, and Rein is her best chance to survive.

Braelyn James was diagnosed with a tumor at the age of eighteen and went through radiation, surgery and chemo. Braelyn went into remission but unfortunately, she found herself having to go through everything again two more times. A call from her doctor informed her that she would have to go through everything once again, but she is a fighter she beat it before, and she will do it again. She works for her father’s paranormal tabloid and her biggest challenge is beating the cancer that has tried to kill her before. A short cut through an alley would make her fight against her cancer seem easy compared to what she faces in that alley.

Rein is a mixed breed, vampire, warlock and incubus and when Braelyn sees him, he is holding a creature up against the wall. Rein managed to send his captive through a portal and approached Braelyn determined to wipe her mind, not only wasn’t he able to erase her memories she fearlessly verbally attacks him. Having no choice, Rein takes her through the portal and brings her to Scath one of the three realms of Earth including Darque where the monsters live.

Rein is a Scion Firebrand whose job is to protect the innocent when attacked by creatures believed to only exist in books and movies. All the while that Rein is attempting to bring Braelyn to headquarters, she doesn’t let up on the cursing and threats. Any other human would try to run for the hills, but she stands her ground and has a take no prisoner’s attitude. Even when Rein drops his fangs it has no effect on her although shecan’t help but be attracted to this grumpy vampire who kidnapped her.

Poor Rein is assigned to protect her and that means bringing her to his home. She has a mouth that doesn’t shut, and Rein is convinced he is going out of his mind. The question remains why her mind can’t be wiped and what to do with her. Rein doesn’t trust himself around her. She is human, and he has been controlling his bloodlust for centuries so her being in his space is just making his bloodlust raise its ugly head. There is a very sad part of his past that made him the monster he has become, and it was in the hands of someone he should have been able to trust.

Braelyn’s desire for Rein is very evident because she doesn’t hide it. Every attempt by her to seduce him falls flat but he is weakening and before long his control will snap. She is willing to have a one-night stand after all she has cancer and death is staring her in the face. Before she returns to Earth, she wants to have an exciting memory to take with her so while she is undergoing chemo, she will have something wonderful to remember.

This book is a paranormal romance lover’s dream, well it was for me, vampires, elves, berserkers, witches, mages, demons, satyrs, shifters and the list goes on. So much suspense, violence, betrayals, secrets and lies and amazing characters. Now my favorite part of the book is any time Braelyn appears, she is my favorite character in most of the books I have read, and there are many. In the middle of a story that is very graphic and at times violent she does not cease to make me smile. She is a hand full, and it doesn’t take long before everyone who meets her realizes it.

There is no cliffhanger other than being aware that there is more to come, and I can’t wait and hope that Rein and Braelyn will be a part of it.
