The Secret Guardians completed their deadly mission in the London Underground. Now, they must rush to save the planet from total devastation. To do this, Sir Winston Churchill, Dr. Albert Einstein, hunky former MI5 agent, David Smythe, Dr. Raven “Bones” Wyndot, and Sophie the ghost Great Dane must crush formidable human and demonic adversaries.
They dash from their HQ at the classy London Savoy and jet to Owl Mountain in Poland. The herculean task begins! Below the centuries-old Ksiaz Castle, in the blood-tainted bowels of the earth, hideous entities await. The Guardians must defeat the monsters and destroy the fabled Nazi Doomsday Machine. Time is a crumbling ledge beneath their feet. Soon, the earth may be reduced to smoldering rubble.

Armed with her .38 and a pair of red high heels, Bones is ready to take on the forces of evil with the rest of her mysterious team in the second book of The Mysterious Secret Guardians series. The members of the team are a bit different from the previous book, but their goal is still the same: stop the forces of evil from destroying the world.
The majority of this book is told from the perspective of Dr. Raven “Bones” Wyndot. Bones is a force to be reckoned with as she tackles a multitude of challenges in the mission to find and destroy a fabled Nazi Doomsday Machine. She isn’t just doing the research. She is also confronting the team’s human and demonic adversaries. Bones is the type of action hero I can appreciate. She has the skill to manage physical challenges, but she also knows how to use her intellect when physical strength isn’t enough. In addition to being one of the few female members of the team, she is also one of the few mortal members. I applaud the way Bones handles both the physical and emotional challenges with confidence and determination.
In addition to developing engaging characters, the author delivers some interesting insights in history and science without making them feel like lessons. She also offers up some insights on how evil manages to infiltrate society on a grand scale. I enjoyed reading all of these tidbits, and I really wish that my college professors had presented their lectures in such an entertaining way. I had a particular interest in the doomsday machine. The mechanics behind how the Doomsday Device might work were fascinating.
As with the previous volume, this book wraps up the core story but leaves some unanswered questions for the next volume. I have enjoyed getting to know Bones and her team of historical figures as they experience life in the modern world. I would like to see more personal interactions between Bones and her companion, David, but there is at least one more book in this series, so I have high hopes. Hopefully, some questions about the relationship between Bones and David will be answered in the next book. If you are interested in a story about good versus evil that has some fascinating applications of science, a curious plan for world destruction, and dynamic characters, this will be an entertaining read.
