When New York treats Adrianna like a pariah and she needs a place to escape to, the famous medium remembers the place of her childhood and youth. Her grandfather took her on vacation here so she would know where her family came from and where her roots are. Adrianna books a flight, contacts the couple that takes care of her property she shares with a few distant cousins, and boards the plane.
Maria and Luigi welcome her warmly into her home. Part of the mill that had collapsed a long time ago, was renovated and turned into cute and homey guest rooms. Maria promises to cook for Adrianna and have dinner with her as often as her duties permit it to her. She loves ‘little Adrianna’ like she was family. Adrianna still has to learn that even the wonderful motherly and warm Maria holds her secrets.
Adrianna doesn’t need much time to find out that there is an evil spirit hunting the old mill and not only the mill but the entire property. But when she mentions it, Luigi and Maria seem to be insecure and a bit fearful. However, Adrianna has sworn to never see a ghost again, no matter what will happen. Her bad experience in New York has taught her a lesson and she hasn’t forgotten why she left.
At this point I won’t go deeper into the story. However, I will mention that the story holds more ghosts, more spirits, and two very important characters: Luca and Marco.
It becomes apparent quickly that there is something different about the existence of these two spiritual beings. Adrianna, no matter what she promised herself, will need help.
I enjoyed reading about Adrianna who seems to be a character with some depth, a woman who has inherited a gift she uses to help people. She does not use it light hearted but to really support and help. Her conscience makes her a serious person who doesn’t take her talent the easy way. I like how she handled the happening in New York in her own sensitive way.
The character I liked most in this book is Maria. Wonderful, motherly Maria with her secrets and the knowledge she holds. She knows when to be there and when to stay away. She’s the epitome of an older Italian woman with her love for cooking and her family.
Permit me now a word about the two important characters I mentioned earlier: Luca and Marco. If I go deeper into the part they’re playing within the story, I am telling far too much.
Karilyn Bentley has created a cute ghost romance story for people who enjoy a nice escape from an unpredictable world.
