Looking for a haven, Astin Langlee went to the moon to escape the unforgiving rigors of poverty on Earth. Signing on for seven years of contract labor, he planned to work hard and make a place for himself. Called “Tinman’ for his lack of observable emotion, he does just that, finding solace only in his conversations with Eddie, a sentient AI.
Finding love never crossed his mind.
Meeting his co-worker, Davis, Astin discovers that he cares more than his nickname suggests. Opening to the joy Davis brings in his wake, Tinman allows love to overcome his fear.
When the moon station is shut down by the uncaring LunaCorp, they head for Mars, only to find that home threatened by the same corporation.
Can Astin save his new home and those he loves, or will he lose all while taking a gamble none could envision?

Earth is the place people want to escape from, shortage of food, pandemics and unrest. The only surviving ones are the rich in their ivory towers. Astin Langlee lost both parents to the pandemic and was lucky enough to get a job working for LunaCorp on the moon station.
Astin’s seven-year contract is almost over, and he is hopeful that he will be given a full-time job so that he isn’t forced to return to Earth. His is nickname is Tinman and he always believed that he got that name due to his lack of emotion. Astin keeps his emotions locked up inside but that was not the reason it was his desire to be around the comps.
Astin went to work every day and his only interaction was with Eddie a sentient AI. Work, eat, sleep, repeat until he began to spend time with Boots (Davis). Boots got his nickname simply because rather than wear the soft shoes everyone did, he wore, yes boots. From meeting for occasional meals their meetings became a constant.
Astin and Davis found themselves wanting to spend as much time as they could together if their work schedules coincided. What began as friends became a relationship that both men wanted to go further, and it did. When Davis fell off a ladder and was seriously injured Astin was determined to be there for him regardless of his work schedule. Despite the age difference, Astin was older, they soon realized that age was just a number, even if Davis insisted on jokingly calling Astin, old man.
Things on the moon began to get worse and worse, lack of food, long hours working with no increase in pay, and Astin and Davis longed for the time they could go to Mars. Davis’s family, his mother, brother and sister, are there but they needed enough money to get there. Then it was discovered that only those with family already on Mars could go and it was Eddie who had the idea that could possibly make it happen for Davis and Astin to go together.
The moon station is closing, LunaCorp removes the workers to Earth knowing that most will die. A corporation whose only concern is the bottom line and people are there to serve their needs. On Earth there is unrest, violence and living there a death sentence. Mars is the only hope for humanity but leaving Earth to travel to Mars is out of reach.
When LunaCorp wants to take over Mars, Astin knows he will have to do something, or all will be lost. The Tinman begins to show the emotions that he and everyone else thought he didn’tpossess. A man who didn’t want to get involved became a beacon.
This was a wonderful story of survival against all odds and a story of love conquers all. Astin and Davis are wonderful characters who not only want to start a new life they also don’t hesitate to help others.
The world is a bleak place, and the scary part is the fact that it we take our freedom and planet for granted as if it will always stay the same.
