Another spring, another trip to Pennsylvania for the regional Alpha gathering. After the tragedy at the last gathering, Alpha Tobias Rogan can only hope that this event will go smoothly. Especially since his mate Kyle Slidell refuses to stay behind in Boston.
At the gathering, Tobias’s hopes are dashed when a visiting stranger challenges the Arkhon of the Northeast Region to a fight for rank—and wins. But the challenger wasn’t acting of his own free will. There’s a larger plan in play, and Tobias knows who’s behind it.
To protect his region, with his mate by his side, Tobias will do whatever it takes. So much for things going smoothly.

Unlike the first three books this one is told in Tobias’ PV. Another regional conference is coming soon, and Tobias has asked Kyle to remain in Boston which he is unwilling to do without a fight. It would take a recommendation from the Arkhon, Zane to convince Tobias that Kyle should be with him. After all the deaths and Tobias almost losing his life after being shot with a silver bullet, he worries that Kyle could get hurt.
Things between the mates has been tough, there is a disconnect between them that neither of them can figure out. Tobias even has thoughts of the two separating and having Kyle move out after six months of begging him to move in. A threatening phone call warning Tobias not to bring Kyle and a visit from six-year-old Mikey about a dream he has that indicates the Arkhon will lose to a grey wolf have Tobias convinced there is trouble ahead.
When they arrive in Philadelphia, they get more bad news two Alphas, and their pack mates have died in a car crash on their way to the conference leaving two packs without Alphas. Then Zane reveals a wolf from Saul’s old pack is coming to challenge for one of the pack Alphas now dead. Tobias and Kyle both feel there is something very off about everything and suspect that the car accident may not have been accidental.
Trying to deal with all the chaos and trying to figure out why they have felt disconnected is a lot to deal with and after an argument Tobias asks Kyle to leave. He has no idea why he said it and doesn’t really want him to leave but so much has happened to both of them and their pack in the past few months and now it all seems to be coming to a head.
After meeting Hector both Kyle and Tobias sense something is off with him but have to wait until whatever he has planned happens. They reveal all their thoughts to Zane, and he immediately believes everything they have to say. Zane trusts Kyle and Tobias and even little Mikey so he knows trouble is coming.
Then the unexpected happens when Hector challenges Zane for his rank, something that should not have been possible for a wolf who is not an Alpha. Obviously, someone high in rank such as the Anax is running the show.
What happens with the challenge, what Tobias and Kyle do to get back their connection is not something I will reveal in this review but something that you should read. This series is wonderful, and I highly recommend reading them in order even though the author does a great job of keeping the reader abreast of what occurred previously.
Explicit sex, lies, betrayal, secrets and surprises. This series has everything you would want in a shifter book and then some.
