Mike Ellsworth was alive and well one minute, and dead the next. Only he’s not really dead—he’s a ghost. One with lots of unfinished business. He’s never told his wife that he has come to accept that he’s gay. He’s never told her that he has a secret lover. He’s never been able to tell his lover that he is in love with him. Now there’s nothing Mike can do about it. And that’s only the beginning! He soon finds out he can help other ghosts leave the spirit world and step into the light. So what’s keeping him stuck on earth? If only there were a way he could make up for all he’s done wrong, and finally do what’s truly right. And maybe, just maybe, there is.

Short and to the point – There’s no time like the present: don’t live your life in the closet and let it pass you by.
Mike Ellsworth is in love with Joel, has been having an affair with him for a year, and it turns out, his wife has been cheating on him as well. Both are unhappy in their marriage, and trying to find happiness with other people. Of course all of this comes to light after Mike is severely injured in a car crash, and floats through the living world as a spirit, wandering the earth, searching for inner peace.
There’s not a whole lot I can say about this novella without giving away the ending, which is wonderful and what you’d expect from a piece of romance fiction. If you’ve ever read A Christmas Carol, you’ll understand what I mean when I say Mike is in the background watching the Cratchits live and suffer in their daily lives. Mike does this with Joel and Lori, as they sit by his side and desperately hope that he awakens from a vegetable state.
It was very touching and heartbreaking at times. I wasn’t expecting the ending, but I was grateful for it.
