All beings—whether human, vampire, Sidhe, or were-creature—have a guardian angel.

Lily is one of the rare few who can see hers. Having qualified as a slayer to defend the ordinary from the supernatural, Lily believes she will now be able to unlock the secrets of her hidden past. However, battling werewolves and mages, she soon finds herself pitted against a seemingly invincible enemy. To make matters worse, the once unshakable bond with her guardian angel, Adrian, begins to crumble as he refuses to reveal the truth about her origins.

Amid a whirlwind of events, Lily teams up with a member of the secretive Order of Tenebrae. She grows closer to him as they embark on a desperate quest for the truth and go on to uncover an intricate web of intrigue rooted in her cryptic past.

At the age of eleven Lily woke up in a hospital after a car accident. She has no memory of what happened or anything about her parents. Fortunately, Lily’s godmother Alina arrived to take custody of her. Alina was a slayer and trained Lily to join her. When she passed her final test Lily was made a slayer joining Alina’s group.
With Lily was her guardian angel, Adrian and with her ability of detection she can see all the guardian angels of any species. Finally, Lily reached her eighteenth birthday and was presented before the council to receive her license and to be officially welcomed as the newest and youngest slayer.
For the seven years she lived with Alina, she begged her to tell her about her past with no results. She also begged Adrian to tell her but he said he was not allowed to so she kept hoping one of them would reveal her past to her. Her first assignment led to her being attacked by a werewolf pack, a pack that seemed to be focused on her. Was it something from her past?
With the knowledge that Lily was being targeted she was forbidden from going on any more missions until the one responsible is found. Lily was not one to just sit back and went on the hunt by herself where she was attacked by a mage wanting her dead. It was another mage who saved her killing her attacker.
Silas was the fifth member of the council and like Lily he has questions about why his friend attacked her and what secrets she has. The members of the team believed that Silas was responsible for the death of one of their team and he appeared to be holding Lily hostage. What they didn’t know was that she insisted on accompanying him knowing that with him she would probably get the answers she has been seeking for the past seven years.
Lily’s decision to accompany Silas put a target on both their backs. The hunters are after them and Silas’ group the Order of Tenebrae is also after them, but Lily had no way of knowing that both groups are after her specifically. Mages are feared because they drain the energy from guardian angels, only Silas refused to do that and went on a more placid form of magic also making him a threat to his group.
This book was full of surprises, secrets, betrayals and danger. A name from the past reappears and is cause for fear. I have hardly touched on everything that happens in this book, but it made for interesting reading. The book ended with a cliffhanger, but some of Lily’s past is revealed. I have no idea when book two will be coming out but hopefully it will not be too long.
