King Cadewyn (Cade) of the Winter Court has been brought news that a curse has been placed on the land and the land is dying. The Habred live in Tywyll Forest which is inhabited by monsters and after the war with them every leader and important person including the commander were killed. Unfortunately unknown to Cade was the fact that the commander’s son lived and has sworn revenge. By destroying Wyth’s land there will be nothing left of the Winter Court and its people. The only hope to save everyone is a sacrifice, a sacrifice of a pure-hearted, selfless human. Cade was guaranteed that when he arrived in the human realm he would recognize the one he needed.
Amber is twenty-one just lost her job and lives with a drunken roommate named Kimberly. Her life does not look promising but in spite of that when she sees a homeless man going through the garbage she hands him her jacket and her lunch. Then an elderly man drops his wallet spilling all his money on the floor, not only does Amber return every dollar she also refuses a reward. Her next act of goodness is to return a little puppy that was taken from a little girl by a group of bullies and with every act Cade knows that he has found that one true pure-hearted and selfless human.
With no other choice Cade uses magic to put Amber to sleep and returns her to his castle, he doesn’t hide the fact that she is in the fae realm and the Winter Court. Refusing to reveal that he brought her there to be sacrificed he appeals to her sense of goodness and that he requires her for a special ceremony that will save his people and land. Not one to turn her back on anyone in need she readily agrees and has to undergo cleansing. The one thing that Cade didn’t count on was falling for Amber and he knows he has to stay away from her.
This book was like reading a beautiful fairytale complete with a handsome fae king and a beautiful human girl. There is intrigue, betrayal, lies, secrets and romance. What happens between Cade and Amber is not something I will reveal but I will say this is a must read and I can’t wait for more. Although this is a series each book will be about a different couple and will have a complete ending.
