Now that colonists Elias Trost and Tristan MacLeod have learned of the existence of another intelligent species on this planet, their life on New Skye has become even more perilous. Dresde, the ruthless wurl queen, has kidnapped Elias’s brother, Oscar, along with the egg of a rival queen.

Oscar Trost finds danger and privation under Dresde’s reign, but he isn’t alone. A small group of humans from the original colony ship, long lost from memory, live on the eastern continent as slaves to Dresde’s horrific whims. In order to survive, Oscar must find his courage and prove himself to these others while he awaits the rescue he is sure will come.

Elias and Tristan have to find Oscar and the egg, and fast. Every day their search becomes more desperate. But sprawling between them and Dresde’s lair is the untamed alien wilderness, teeming with threats from ground and sky. And in the vast ocean they must cross lies something else—something ancient that should not be disturbed….

What I liked:

As with book one, Life Seed, World Warden pulled me into the story from the moment I began reading it. I especially enjoyed the introduction where the antagonist in this story pulls in the main character, who was a minor character in book one. Again, I loved the world building. My favorite part of the world building was the giant turtle… I’ll leave it at that as to not give too much of the story away.

Usually, series exclude the previous books main characters, or at least minimize their presence in book two. I appreciated how this book didn’t do that, rather it allowed us to continue with both of Life Seed’s main characters and their journey toward saving the planet.

Overall, these two books were both very well written.

Critique

Again, my only critique is that some of the content was unnecessary and took away from the overall reading experience. But, that’s nothing a good edit couldn’t have fixed. Once again, I just skimmed over the superfluous information to get to the meatier parts of the story. I knocked the book down from 5-stars to 4.5-stars because of the superfluous content.

Both World Warren and Life Seed are great reads, and I highly recommend thisseries and look forward to reading more from this author!
