Rena Cryder lost her parents two years ago in a car accident. Now living with her best friend Cecile and her family she is readying herself for high school graduation, a time to plan for the future, only her future would be beyond her wildest imagination.
Things begin to get strange, a man at a bookstore she frequents seems to be too interested in her and another man seeing her run from the store offers to accompany her to a coffee shop to wait for Cecile. It was always Cecile that attracted men but suddenly she has attracted two within a short time of each other.
Cryder knows that Rena has not been feeling right lately, losing consciousness, dizzy and not herself. After safely going home with Cecile at her side she gets a message on facebook from Cryder asking her to have coffee with him. Once again she loses consciousness and he hurrys her home where he gives her a drink. This drink she has to take every day to keep her safe and Cryder has no desire to explain why. Strange as it seems she has a feeling of connection with him and trusts him and does what he says. Of course the fact that she begins to feel better was another reason she continued taking the drink.
It isn’t until Rena and Cecile meet up with Bristol the man from the bookstore that they finally begin to get answers, why Rena is being sought after and why Cryder knew what she needed to feel better, and the biggest shock is the discovery that Bristol and Cryder are vampires. Everyone grows up reading about vampires but not everyone gets to meet one face to face especially one that reveals you are feared and that your blood is powerful. Cornered in the woods they can’t escape from Bishop and Rena has no doubt that she and Cecile will die. I will not reveal anything else for fear of giving anything away.
The story held my attention from start to finish and when I got to the end I actually had to check that I didn’t miss something because it went so fast. So many surprises and although not a typical cliffhanger there is no doubt that we have just scratched the surface on what will happen with Rena, Cecile and Cryder and I can’t wait.
