For anyone who loves fairy tales with a handsome prince, a beautiful princess, a wicked witch, and all manner of fae, then this is the book for you.

Taryn Hamilton grew up in Wales in 1232 living under the rule of a very sadistic father. Her mother left her father for another man and Taryn was left to suffer for that. She was ridiculed constantly and punished severely. She was a girl who loved to dance and sing–only those things would cause her to spend time in the pit alone with the rats. If men found her attractive due to her beauty, she was punished for enticing them. There was nothing that Taryn could do that would make her father love her.

Lord Gabriel Abaedden of Rhyddon Prince of the Tylwyth Teg was born of a fae father and a human mother and is the heir to the throne, a throne he doesn’t want. It has been years since he was enchanted by a powerful witch named Aneira leaving him a sad and angry man. He can see no beauty in anything around him and when she calls to him he goes. The only thing he hasn’t given to her is his heart which he will not give.

Taryn discovers that she has been betrothed to the Raven of Rhyddon, aka Gabriel Abaedden. When she sees him, she sees the man she has dreamed about for years, the man who begs her to help him. However, the man before her is definitely not the same man, this man is angry and doesn’t even spend time with her. His brother stands in for him at his own marriage and things just go downhill from there.

Taryn still has feelings for Gabriel even though he is not the man she dreamed about. Although they sleep in different rooms and he basically ignores her she finds herself loving Rhyddon where she has made friends and feels free. Her only fear is that Gabriel will decide he doesn’t want her and makes her leave something that would break her heart. She hears Aneira’s call to her husband and watches as he goes to her in the forest. She dreams of him kissing her and wanting to be with her but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

She becomes friends with Gabriel’s human brother and sister-in-law and also his fae half-brother. The three of them do everything they can to bring Gabriel and Taryn together. Little by little Gabriel begins to notice Taryn and begins to desire her, could Taryn be the one that can break his enchantment and set him free from Aneira? Will Taryn find the happiness she has always craved?

I don’t want to go into too many details about this book because I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that there are betrayals, secrets and a whopper of a surprise. The only time I was disappointed in the book was when I had to put it down. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next one.
