Mabel is Estreldez, she never knew her parents and was raised in the offspring training facility by caretakers. Now she is twenty and is excited about the upcoming mating ceremony which requires being tested and her test showed that she is infertile. For her safety she must have her egg sack removed, making her ineligible for the mating ceremony in addition to losing her position as Mating Research Advisor. Her world is falling apart.
Mabel is half Estreldez and her other half is unknown, but she still hopes that there will be some way of curing her and allowing her to have children. For the first time a Krelin has been invited to join in the ceremony. Krelis and Estreldez have a rocky relationship, but Trent has come with the hope of finding a new queen for the Krelis hive and hopefully solidify peace between the two planets. The queen of Krelis is planning an attack on Estreldez but if Trent is successful in mating with the future Almder, Luan it will assure that there will be peace. Unfortunately, there is a lot standing in his way, Luan must accept him as a mate, and he must get over his unexpected attraction to Mabel.
He wants Mabel and she wants him, but his planet and Mabel’s planet require him to mate with someone of importance so the hive will accept her. War is coming and joining forces would be important for both planets to survive. His desire for Mabel is the desire of a fated mate but to have her she would have to accept being his second mate and she is not willing to be second best despite her strong desire for him.
Before long Trent’s true ide ntity is revealed, he is the prince, and his mother is the queen he wants to overthrow. Trent’s identity is just one surprise because there is still Mabel’s discovery of who she really is in addition to finding a way for Trent to be with his fated mate and still mate with Luan.
This book is chock full of surprises, secrets, betrayals, romance, and sex. I was really surprised by some of the secrets revealed and all the wheeling dealing that went on so I had to keep glued to each page for fear I would miss something.
If you love sci-fi then don’t miss this series and although each book is stand-alone, I highly recommend beginning with book one.
