Paul Gladwell is on his way to his best friend Bran’s wedding when his plane is deboarded due to bad weather and mechanical problems. Paul hoped that he would make it for the bachelor party that night which didn’t seem possible and he had to be there for the wedding since he is the best man. While waiting for news about his flight he finds himself face to face with the man who broke his heart twelve years ago, Bran’s brother Avery.
Twelve years ago, Avery Laniston took off for England without so much as a goodbye to Paul. Paul has never gotten over the hurt and he dreads having to face Avery at the wedding but now he has to face him at an airport restaurant. Like Paul he is also stranded at the Dallas airport and Bran has decided to assist cupid by putting the two of them together. Paul found himself talking to Avery and accepted his apology for what he did. Avery is back in the States and is determined to get Paul back in spite of the walls Paul has erected around himself.
Avery’s career has always come first and Paul knows that the first offer for a Professor in Economics he will take it regardless of where it is. Paul is afraid to open his heart again knowing full well that Avery will break. Of course, since the both of them have never stopped caring for each other sex is not off the table. It began on the night they were stranded in Dallas and finally found a tiny space to at least get off their feet since all the hotels were booked. That was when Paul suggested a one-night stand to release the tension they both had.
Bran once again plays matchmaker and arranges for Avery and Paul to share the same bungalow in Lake Tahoe hoping that things can be different. Paul has no doubt that he loves Avery and always had but he has hardened himself for fear of having his heart broken again. Avery wants Paul and wants to find a Professorship that will lead him to tenure knowing full well that he will take it no matter where it is. While the two of them enjoy the festivities at Lake Tahoe courtesy of Bran and his new wife Avery pulls out all stops when it comes to getting Paul back.
This was a beautiful story of two men trying to begin again, one of them afraid to be hurt and the other determined to prove he has changed. Then a job offer comes in, and that folks is all I will say.
