This is the second book in the series but it isn’t necessary to read the series in order. There is a connection between the two books and that is the company the characters in both books work for and two characters, Sebastian and Vanessa who were the focus of book one.
Jenna Kravitz is separated from her husband Marco who was just one of the many veterans who return from Afghanistan and suffer from PTSD. Unfortunately, Marco did something that Jenna was unable to forgive, he went to Thailand with friends and what he took for a bar turned out to be a brothel. In spite of the fact that he didn’t do anything but get naked and take a bath after which he ran out Jenna just added that betrayal to all the other problems she faced since Marco returned from the army.
Marco is desperate to get back with his family and be with his two young daughters on a daily basis but Jenna is determined to not let that happen. I had moments when I really disliked Jenna especially when she suddenly fell in lust with a beautiful woman she met on the street after being robbed. For the longest time Jenna had a desire for a BDSM relationship but it was something she and Marco never discussed. Everything changed when Jenna weakened and had a very hot night of sex with Marco and nothing would ever be the same. When Marco was gung-ho over the whole BDSM it looked as if things between him and Jenna could possibly work out.
Her separation, her discovering her true sexual nature are nothing compared to trouble at work where a program she created is being hacked and jobs are in jeopardy including hers. Jenna has to find the guilty party and that means spying on people she considers friends including the very woman she lusts after and who she got a job at her company.
This was a story that at times was very emotional especially the reality of what soldiers go through when they return home. Marco’s nightmares are of dead bodies and limbs strewn all over the floor and why he is filled with guilty was a heartbreaker and one I won’t reveal. Learning to open up about what happened and trusting those close to him and Jenna realizing that she might not have given Marco what he needed was a lesson they both had to learn. Of course, the mystery of who is hacking the program she created was another interesting aspect to the story and the sex didn’t hurt either.
