Dr. Charlotte Devaux’s just been through hell but taking a break from the mayhem isn’t an option.
When she’s tossed into a murder investigation more confusing than her budding relationship with her boss, the sexy, stubborn vampire, Lieutenant Julian Carver, her psychic powers provide more questions than answers. There’s a frustrating lack of evidence to explore in her lab. And since the murder was committed on the Supernatural Handling Agency’s Division of Equity’s (SHADE’s) base, Julian’s convinced there’s a mole in the organization.
As the investigation intensifies, unexpected blackmail from one of the suspects threatens the safety of Charlotte’s family. But trusting anyone else with the information could be a grave mistake—even Julian. The vamp might be amazing in bed, but that doesn’t mean she should share everything with him, considering the secrets she knows he’s keeping from her. And the fact he may very well make things worse by tearing out the blackmailer’s throat. Complicating matters are her new friends, but are they reliable or do they have agendas of their own?
If she doesn’t figure out who to trust, it could cost the lives of everyone she loves and let a murderer go free.

Dr. Charlotte Devaux and her family are now on the Island headquarters of SHADE (Supernatural Handling Agency’s Division of Equity’s). She and Lieutenant Julian Carver are working closely together but their relationship is still strained and now they are trying to solve the mystery of a dead shifter.
The investigation leads them to all the Sect Liaisons for answers and hopefully the killer. The shifter, vampire, fae, witch and the liaison of the others but who can be trusted. While searching for the killer they are also on the search for the mole at SHADE and the list of possible suspects just keeps growing.
Char’s psychic gifts, telekinesis, and mind-bending have kicked into high gear saving her from falling prey to those who wish her harm.
When another body is discovered and appears to have been committed by a vampire it is Julian that is the prime suspect, and it is Char who is determined to prove his innocence. Unfortunately, Char finds herself the victim of blackmail, blackmail that could prove dangerous to her mother and sister. Now with fear for her family she must be very careful how she conducts her investigation into two deaths while trying to prove Julian’s innocence.
The perpetrator has to be someone small enough to get through the elevator vent to commit the murder but none of the suspects fit the bill. None of the liaisons would be capable of getting into the elevator by the small vent so this investigation will eventually lead to someone who was not even considered.
Char questions her feelings for Julian and her trust in him as her mind is filled with all the information thrown at her by others. She has absolutely no doubt that Julian is not a murderer but has doubts about things he has told her.
This was another great addition to this series filled with amazing characters, supernatural’s, mystery and romance. Surprises, secrets and betrayal. A cab driven by a ghost, and Karma a familiar that can instantly turn into anything except a human and is a marvel. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
