Bristol Rieger was a drug lord for a huge criminal organization and is now a fugitive. After years of living the high life, cars, money, women he finally had enough of killing. When his father killed two young children and their father it was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Bristol worked for two years with the DEA and brought down the Onyx organization despite the promise by the DEA to remove him from prison after serving a short term and then getting immunity from prosecution. Bristol didn’t trust that he would truly be let free and would be used till he was no longer useful, so he ran to Mexico.
Hiding out he went to a bar and was discovered and although he swore off killing, he had no choice but to kill once again. At the hotel he was staying at he saw a woman he believed was dead, Carmen Lozano. Carmen was married to Jorge an abusive man who beat her and sexually abused her. Now Carmen is working as a cleaning girl at the hotel Bristol is staying at and he couldn’t resist approaching her.
Bristol discovers that Carmen, like him is on the run from her father the head of the Lozano cartel and her husband. She has joined a militia group working to combat the cartel violence and when Bristol follows her, he discovers what she has been doing.
Bristol is determined to protect Carmen only when she meets him for dinner, and she runs away she is caught by the Ciriacos another cartel who knows who she is and is willing to sell her to the Lozano cartel with plans of joining them. Carmen wouldn’t go down without a fight and Bristol followed them and showed up just in time.
Now the two of them are on the run together trying to get as far away from the Ciriacos as possible. They give in to their feelings for each other, only Carmen believes that they will always be together while Bristol wants to find a safe place for her and then leave.
Neither one of them wants to cause the other trouble, she believes that being with her will put a target on his back and he knows that there are many things she is unaware of about him and he is wanted by the government and the cartels.
If you love books about the mafia then this is one you shouldn’t miss. It has sex, violence, betrayals and secrets. I couldn’t put this book down once I started it and never was there a dull moment in the story. It was a look into the lives of the children brought up in the mafia and it wasn’t pretty.
