Lone wolf Malachi Powers would be overjoyed to be with his mate, Quinn Boucher, after a few months apart…if Quinn hadn’t been sent to Nova Scotia to recover from a severe trauma flashback. Fearing losing the man he calls “Sire,” Quinn has been hiding how bad his PTSD has become. Both hope that their time on the private island of Anax Silas Creighton, ruler of all Canadian werewolves, will give Quinn time to process and rest.

But resting will have to wait. One of Silas’s new guards, Andy, has malevolent intentions against the Anax, and only Quinn, with his clairvoyant abilities, can see the truth. When Andy takes control of Silas, Malachi, and Silas’s other guards, Quinn has to rely on Aubrey Pyke, Silas's human doctor, to help him defeat the intruder.

Ultimately, Quinn must face Andy alone. But first, he will battle the demons of his past—memories fueled by Andy’s power. Without Malachi’s strength, how can Quinn prevail?

This book includes intense descriptions of flashbacks to abuse and sexual assault, harsh language including one use of the F-slur against a gay man, depictions of PTSD, and on-page unaliving of an evil werewolf. The main characters' relationship includes a VERY large age gap (over a century; werewolves live a long time!) and one character consensually commanding the other.

Malachi Powers and his mate Quinn Boucher’s story continues, and it is a story that was welcome and enjoyed.
Silas the Anax of Canada has sent for Malachi regarding trouble with Quinn, so Malachi doesn’t question it and answers the call. When Quinn arrives at Silas’ home it is apparent to Malachi that Quinn is not well, and he is determined to find out why.
Quinn was a guard for Tobias the US Anax, and he was sent to Nova Scotia with the hope of him getting the help that he needed with his mate at his side. Quinn suffers from PTSD; he suffers from extreme nightmares and a simple touch when he doesn’t expect it can cause him to lash out which is exactly what happened when his friend and Tobias’ mate touched him. Now Quinn feels guilty for punching his friend despite everyone telling him it was not his fault.
Malachi is a pack less wolf and a loner living in his cottage with no one around and he still mourns the loss of his past lover, but Quinn is his mate, and nothing will keep him from helping him. Despite the century between them age wise and the fact that Malachi did not want to perform the mate bond he had no control and now with Quinn in Massachusetts they don’t see each other very often but speak on the phone and see each other on the computer.
When Quinn receives a call from the Alpha of the Boundary Pack, the pack responsible for most of his nightmares it sets Quinn back. No one knows how the Alpha got his phone number in addition to the Alpha being told not to get in touch with Quinn, so something is going on.
Quinn has suffered so much since being turned, the loss of half his past pack, and abuse at the hands of some pack members which would account for his PTSD. No one could suffer what he has without experiencing nightmares, but he hasn’t revealed everything that happened to him.
When Quinn sees one of the guards surrounded by colors indicating deceit, he knows that there is trouble coming. And when Silas exhibits strange behavior Quinn must try to remember everything from his past to help him keep the future from being destroyed.
I remember all the characters in this series from reading “Real Werewolves Don’t Eat Meat” another wonderful series that I would highly recommend. As with all the books in both series there are those who want to destroy what is and turn it into something evil.
Malachi and Quinn are wonderful their relationship is boy/sire but that is what Quinn is happy with. The time in Nova Scotia is bringing their bond closer and closer and I look forward to the next book in the series to see where their lives have taken them.
