Natalya Dubrosky is a vampire and a detective. She has finally gotten up the nerve to leave her sired parents and the mansion they lived in. She is currently staying at the coven house until her new apartment is ready and learning about magic. We get an update on the witches previously appearing in books one and two and the men they fell in love with, Alex and Willow are planning for their wedding and Natalya is helping out. She has embraced the witches and they have embraced her.
Cayden Teague is a Special Agent for the Magical Bureau of Investigations and his agency and Natalya’s have been assigned to work together to find a killer and a rapist. Unfortunately, there is no clue whether they are related or not, the search could be for one suspect or two. Cayden and Natalya’s working relationship is one of indifference and throwing insults back and forth at each other. A tragedy in Cayden’s past has made him hate vampires and although it happened a long time ago, he still can’t put it behind him.
Putting their dislike for each other on the back burner their only concern is finding a killer and rapist and this case affects Natalya bringing back a tragic incident in her life. As the two of them work together following clues and trying to find the suspects before anyone else is raped or killed they begin to see each other in a different light. Of course, the fact that Cayden can’t get her out of his mind is something he refuses to admit to anyone.
When an informant for Cayden invites him home with her, he wakes up to find her dead and him assumed to be the killer. Someone is trying to frame him and he realizes he is the focus of the killer, but who and why. If the killer is out to get him then he fears Natalya has been put in the killer’s sights. A wedding is coming up, a killer and rapist are free and things get close to home.
I love this series and although the books can be read alone, I would definitely suggest starting with book one, why miss out on amazing characters and suspense. Like the first two this book has romance, sex and two amazing characters with pasts that have made them leery of ever finding love. Secrets, surprises, suspense and the search for suspects with personal motives and not a boring moment. I picked up this book and put it down when it said “The End”.
