A great evil waits for me…
And it won’t stop until it swallows me whole.
I’ve been ripped from Dark Castle, thrown back into the mortal world where I don’t belong.
Here, they think I’m crazy. They’ve locked me up and forced pills down my throat, telling me I’ve lost my mind.
And maybe I have…
I’ve fallen for three monsters after all.
Prince Airic, Knight Reis, and shapeshifter Wels—they are the sinister men of my nightmares and my deepest fantasies. I can still feel their touches, hear their voices in my head, but they’re in danger.
I have to get back to them because if the shadows close in, I can lose everything.
The kingdom.
My monsters.
And ultimately, myself.
Necessary Evil is book 2 in the Kingdom of Monsters series. It's a full length fantasy monster romance with some darker themes, lots of steam, and is a story where the heroine will end up with more than one love interest.

I must be honest when I started this book, I was convinced that I was going to give it a poor rating since I did not read book one and this book began when that one ended. I know that I missed a lot of background about all the characters and this book began with Stella Henderson back on Earth after going through a portal. I needed to find out what portal and what the significance of the Shadow World and Dark Castle were in her life.
Desperately seeking a way to create a portal to return to her three monsters, the Dark Prince Airic, Knight Reis and shapeshifter Wels all of whom she has had sex with separate and together and now her life is meaningless. Unfortunately, Stella’s aunt discovered she was back and when Stella once again spoke of the Shadow World and Dark Castle, the very things she spoke of as a child, her aunt had her committed to a mental institution fearing she was having a break with reality.
Fast forward to her escaping from the institution, returning to her apartment and researching her journals for any clue as to how to return to her three monsters she discovers a way to send a message and Wels appears to take her back. Of course, the first thing they did was have sex, magic sex that would amplify Wels’ power enough to open the portal.
She was back home for two months but much more time had passed in the Shadow World enough time for there to be an uprising. The Dark Castle is in ruins and people are either prisoners or hiding in fear. Airic and Reis are in hiding and Malachi, Airic’s evil cousin is in control. I am not familiar with Malachi other than the little I picked up in this book but enough to know he is power hungry, and the Shadow World is only his first stop.
The fight to win back the Shadow World and his Dark Castle is a fight that Stella is willing to wage along with the three men she loves. They are faced with betrayals, lies and an enemy who appears to be invincible. Sex between the four is constant and makes this book for eighteen and older.
So, explaining why I was convinced I would give this book a poor rating and didn’t despite it ending in another cliffhanger is because although I missed a lot not reading book one this book kept my interest, and I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one. All the characters were wonderful although there were times when I wanted to hit Stella over the head for the stupid things she did.
