There was peace at last between Earth and Daran, despite the mixed feelings on both planets. At least Jon and Talin could visit now as allies, instead of former enemies, not to mention the trade opportunities waiting to grow.

Jon should have known his joy would be short-lived.

A call from his father informed him of a plague overtaking Earth, killing whomever it touches. Warned away by his parents, Jon is determined to do whatever he needs to aid them.

Daran answers Earth’s call for help, but now it is a race against time.

Leaving for Earth, neither Jon nor Talin know if they will survive, or if they will ever be able to return to Daran.

Will they be asked to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure Earth’s survival? Or will a cure be the biggest threat to Jon and Talin’s lives while another enemy lurks in the shadows?

This is a series I love and if you are not familiar with it, I would highly recommend beginning with the first three books in the series, Daranii Justice. It doesn’t often happen but when I picked this book up and read the first page, I immediately remembered everything that happened previously in the first books and now I feel like it was yesterday that I ended my review for book three with a plea to the author for more, now I wonder if I make a plea to win the lottery, okay I am happy this plea was answered. If you choose not to begin with the first books in the series the author does give some information on what occurred previously but to understand the relationship between Jon and Talin, a relationship that began with hatred, betrayal and torture you need to start at the beginning.

Jon and Talin have returned from visiting Jon’s parents on Earth but unfortunately the first message they receive is one of doom and gloom. A virus has hit Earth and with no vaccine or cure thousands are dying. Jon’s parents assure him and Talin that they are safe and have everything they need but it doesn’t stop them from requesting the aid of Daran. Since Daran and Earth have come to a treaty each promising to come to the other’s aid, if necessary, Daran agrees. Jon, Talin with their guards and doctors head to Earth in a science ship with all the equipment necessary to analyze the virus and hopefully come up with a vaccine.

Calal, the doctor responsible for helping Jon when he needed it, is happy to once again assist. Calal and his assistant put themselves in quarantine for the safety of the rest of the crew but very quickly it becomes unnecessary when they discover that Daranii’s are immune. In the past Daranii’s and Earthlings came together and that brought about pregnancies and children with Daranii DNA. Jon and his entire family are immune, and a vaccine is created but when it is discovered that the vaccine contains Daranii DNA everyone is preparing for the worst.

Since we have lived through COVID it is not surprising what the conspiracy theorists will come up with. How many refused the vaccine and how many died, now they have a vaccine that contains the DNA of their enemy. It was Earth that started a war with Daran, and it was once again a case of ego vs. brains and ego lost big time.

Violence, upheaval and added deaths unrelated to the virus. Jon and his family run into trouble, shootings no doubt by their neighbors. Fear is ruling and fear is keeping many from getting the vaccine that would save their lives. Despite everything Jon and Talin are doing all they can to provide the necessary Daranii DNA and while supplying it there are no thank you’s just violence, but it doesn’t stop them. If you read the first books in the series then you are aware of what Jon did to save his planet and even now is still hated by so many. Jon and Talin’s love for each other is stronger than ever and despite Jon’s beginning on Daran he is now respected and is an Advocate for Daran.

I now end my review with the same plea I made before, please don’t make me wait too long for the next book.
