When Chiara Lopez was age ten, she was rescued from a fiery car crash by a vampire.
Now, enemies pursue a Firebrand warrior from his realm to Earth where they leave him for dead. Rescuing him, Chiara recognizes Dax as her savior from the crash long ago.
But he’s not the hero she dreamed of her entire life. He’s surly, aggressive, thirsty, and opposed to any relationship. While Dax sabotages their rocky romance, he and Chiara are on the run from his enemies and hers.

Dax, a Firebrand Warrior finds himself in trouble while on a mission, being chased by two demons and a warlock. The warlock was able to block all means of communication and as a last resort Dax jumped through a portal till, he could reach Scath for help. Unfortunately, his followers are right behind him able to take down one of the demons the warlock and the remaining demon managed to beat him, punching his chest near his heart and ripping out his D-chip. In the process of dragging him a group of wolfhounds spotted the men and began howling.
The wolfhounds belong to Chiara who lives in a remote cabin and who uses her potions to heal. When she comes across the badly injured Dax who even as a vampire is unable to fully heal, her past comes roaring back. At the age of ten her parents got into a car accident, and it was Dax who saved her. He was her hero until she became a woman and then he became her hot fantasy, a fantasy she has had ever since the accident. Using some ingenuity, she manages to get him back to her cabin but getting him in the bed was another story.
Chiara knows her patient and savior is a vampire so using caution she ties him up. His wounds are serious and when he awakens, she reveals how she knows him, he of course, does not remember but he knows he needs blood to fully heal. The ties don’t hold him and when she runs, he follows, getting her to agree to let him feed from her. Dax has always been a mystery and although he does what is expected of him as a Firebrand, he keeps his distance from everyone. All he cares about is his sister, Bounty, now the Executive Assistant to Commander Kole, a secret never revealed to anyone. His sister is his first love and drinking from O-blud whores his second love.
It doesn’t take long before Dax and Chiara are targeted, without his D-chip he must find a safe place and a portal where hopefully an Aeternal will exit and allow Dax and Chiara to pass into Scath. All portals are blocked and with no means to communicate with his people they are on their own. While Dax tries to figure out how to return home, he notices that Chiara’s eyes have turned violet, she is a Blood Coven descendant.
Chiara is not the only descendant discovered, there are three more. The number of descendants is increasing but there are more out there. Not only descendants being saved, but some of the Firebrands find their mates. Chiara would like to be mated with Dax, but he is surly, arrogant and mean and reminds her repeatedly that he doesn’t like her, he hates witches and warlocks.
Chiara is a very unique woman and refuses to allow him to push her away. She has a very strong will and is very fond of calling Fangboy, or Fanghole……and more that I will not repeat. As scary as he tries to be he is unsuccessful with her. She supplies him with blood and makes him promise not to take it from anyone else, she doesn’t want to be seconds. Chiara wants Dax, Dax does his best to prove he doesn’t want her so the question is, who will win the battle.
This is a series that should be read in order to really understand all the characters and the fight between good and evil. As if there aren’t enough enemies a new one is introduced, and he is a mystery to everyone including Cerebus. Romance, sex, secrets, lies, betrayals and the fight between good and evil. I can’t wait for the next book in the series because although it doesn’t end in the kind of cliffhanger what would make me want to throw the book out the window it left me with an aha moment.
