Blue eyes, dimples, and silky brown hair; Grant Luther has all of Alison's weaknesses. When he asks for one last chance to save their marriage, she agrees to relocate their family to isolated Strawberry, Kentucky in pursuit of his career dreams.
Grant views Alison's sensory issues as limitations and protects her from outside threats. When he finds his new job includes changing him into a shifter in a war against the soul-sucking Sluagh he vows to keep the changes a secret.
What he doesn't know is Alison has been hiding a magical secret of her own. One that makes her a target of the Sluagh. Will Alison emerge from Grant's shadow to protect her family? And can Grant learn that being different can be a strength not a weakness?

Alison and Grant Luther met in college, fell in love, got pregnant and had their son Henrik and then got married. Now Henrik is twelve and Alison and Grant have not shared a bed for five years so when he is offered a new job in Strawberry, Kentucky, Alison agrees to leave everything behind and join him in the hopes of saving their marriage. Their intimacy has faded away over the years and now they both fear being alone with each other and neither one of them could ever have imagined how their lives would change with that move.
Alison has the ability to grow plants with a touch it is her magical ability and a secret she has kept from Grant. She also suffers from sensory processing disorder which has made Grant see her as a weak woman in need of care and protection, something she is not. She wants them to have a life filled with love again and where their relationship is one of equal standing. His new job once again means he is away from home most of the time and things between the two of them does not seem to be progressing very much until a car accident.
On his way home Grant gets into an accident and two of the men he works with, Nate and James appear out of nowhere but instead of just rescuing him they bite him and admit they have made him into a shifter. What he will shift into is still anyone’s guess. His biggest fear is keeping this from Alison there are too many secrets between them already and suddenly his lack of sexual interest is overloaded. Is it because he is turning into a shifter or have those feelings just been laying dormant.
Grant discovers that most of the town are shifters or vampires and that they are at war with the fae, well an offshoot of the fae, the Sluagh, criminals exiled by the fae and now with a fortress just at the edge of town. With Grant’s skill at organization he is definitely the right man to lead the pack, but is he. What happens between Grant and Alison, what happens with the Sluagh are not things I will reveal in this review, but although the book does not end in a cliffhanger there is definitely more to come and this book just laid the groundwork.
Secrets, surprises, suspense, amazing characters make this book a paranormal romance lovers dream come true.
