Ryley Skye can't take anything seriously. Not the murder scenes he investigates, nor the fact that he's cheating on his boyfriend. Not the bloody nightmares he gets every other night, and especially not Vic's ridiculous theory that Ryley might be a mage.
Magic? Him? There's just no way.
When Vic decides he's had enough of Ryley's cheating and breaks things off, it couldn't come at a worse time. They've just been handed a case that will require them to work closely together, whether they like it or not. But Ryley plays along. He has to. He can't afford any kind of confrontation. Things happen when he gets angry or aroused. Weird things. Bad things. He has to stay bottled up and in control at all times.
Then he meets Asher Arden, and indulges in what he thinks is a little rebound fling. But when Ryley loses control and puts Asher's life at risk, he realizes two things: He loves Asher more than anything else in the world…
And Vic just might have been right all along.
(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)

This book is the second in a trilogy, based on the members of a fusion string group. All of the books take place in a mythical universe and all of the characters are included in the books that follow. As such, while this could be a read as a stand alone, I truly believe the book is better when read in series order. This particular story follows Ryley Skye, a violinist and an Insurance Agent-which in this series more closely resembles our police force. Ry could so easily be an unlikable character. He is impulsive and cheats repeatedly on his long term partner. But Lyons is magic. Ry is one of the most endearing guys, especially as his past and the dynamics of his relationship with Vic come more to light. When Vic and Ry are assigned a missing persons case, they have no idea how much this journey will effect their lives.
Asher Arden has been missing for 13 years. And while his immediate family has given him up for dead, his uncle is not so convinced. He agrees that both Vic, whose specialty is abused children, and Ry, whose specialty is cause of death, are uniquely qualified to hunt for his nephew, since the outcome could require either of their expertise. No one is more surprised than Ash when he is rescued by Ryley. The two men find themselves attracted to each other. And then Ry’s past makes itself known is weird ways.
This book is so freaking cool! The world building I was missing in book one was all over this one. There was magic and murder and missing people and men in love! And it was so well done. There are no loose ends in the resolution. There is a fantastic happily ever after. I am now a super fan of GR Lyons. The first book in this series made me want to read the next one. This one is gonna turn me into a release date stalker of this author. Do yourself a favor, and go get this series. I am off to read book three.
