I am sorry I didn’t get to read the first two books, but I did get to know Sam and Miguel and they were wonderful. Sam is Tyler’s boss and best friend, and this is Tyler’s story. Tyler is a mechanic and works hard and parties just as hard. Other than Sam and Miguel and his border collie Dom his life revolves around sex, sex and more sex with help from drugs. A relationship is the last thing he ever wants but a need for caffeine would bring him to a coffee shop where he would set his eyes on a cute man with dimples who would change his life.
Gabe saw Tyler and was immediately drawn to him and that was only after seeing each other very briefly. Gabe is deaf and the next time he met Tyler would be at the park where Tyler and his dog were hanging out. Gabe has a shepherd named Audie and she and Dom would be their very own dating service because the two dogs loved each other and were the perfect reason for their daddies to keep meeting at the park. Four legged kids are just as important to some people as are two legged kids and these two dogs are amazing.
Gabe reads lips and signs, and it is something that takes getting used to, talking face to face when you are used to just talking and realizing how simple things like the laughter of children at the park and hearing your dog bark and all the things those of us with hearing take for granted. Gabe was nineteen when he left Italy and his family to make a new life in America and his new life consisted of friends and his own business, Pawsome Academy and Doggy Day Care.
Gabe and Tyler spend time together with their dogs and at the park, but Tyler still refuses to accept that he is dating since he never even slept with the same man twice or even bothered knowing their names. Sam and Miguel try to encourage him to change but he will be thirty years old and seems set in his ways. The two men are so different Tyler goes to parties where orgies are encouraged, and Gabe is an innocent.
What I loved about this book besides the two amazing dogs and the two amazing humans was what I learned about the things the deaf deal with. I always thought that sign language was universal or that reading lips was uncomplicated, how wrong I was. Coming from Italy Gabe had to face an entirely different form of ASL because in Italy they have ISL. Lip reading from people speaking a different language is also another obstacle.
Gabe was a wonderful character who always laughed and found happiness despite his deafness. This is a book I highly recommend.
