A loving boyfriend, generous friendships, and a thriving business—Arnold Kreed should be ecstatic. So why does he feel like he’s standing on the edge of an abyss?
When Kreed took a chance on a thief—letting Lucky into his world, his life, his heart—he hardly imagined he would find the love and acceptance he didn’t dare dream of. Lucky draws people to him, and his extended found family embraces Kreed.
Now in an established relationship, despite Kreed’s ex causing trouble again, Lucky and Kreed are working toward making a life together. But Kreed is unsettled, unable to find his bliss. He is getting grumpier, and he can feel his people, including his beloved self-aware house, Mildred, pulling away.
Even in Griffon's Elbow, happily ever after requires a bit of a nudge, just maybe not off the edge of a cliff!

We met Lucky and Kreed in book one and watched how they overcame the hardships in their lives, especially Lucky who lived on the streets from age seventeen, who sold his body when he was desperate for a warm bed and picked pockets to eat and help feed the other teens also living on the streets. Then there was Kreed who had been in love with Joe his friend and lover since high school and who tried to destroy Lucky and by association with Kreed and his B &B .
If you haven’t read book one, then I highly recommend starting there because this is the rest of their story. Lucky and Kreed have found comfort in each other and their determination to finish the shelter they started for gay kids in the same situation that Lucky found himself in. Kreed has not been his usual happy self and Lucky finally discovered why. Joe’s husband left him with nothing, the media is painting him as a loser and his biggest sponsor has dropped him. Kreed is finding it difficult to turn his back on Joe who has been a part of his life since they were kids.
Kreed goes to Madeline, well the woman who actually is responsible for bringing him and Lucky together and it all started with a ride and a stolen expensive pocketbook, well that was the past and now Madeline loves the vagabond. Madeline suggests a way to help redeem Joe’s reputation and at the same time help the Shelter, money. Joe has plenty of money without his husband’s and he writes a big check applauding his contribution and desire to help homeless kids, a lie but who cares.
Life has been hard on two wonderful men, and it is about to get harder. Mildred, the house, the sentient house has totally ignored them, Joe can’t stay away and a man from Lucky’s past shows up. Ozzie helped Lucky and the other kids in the past but his addiction to alcohol kept his help limited. Now after rehab he is ready to start over and it is Lucky who answers the call. Ozzie has experience in construction and Emma Joy, yes, another house that makes her wishes known is hired.
As if things weren’t bad enough Mildred reveals why she has been incognito, and it is just one more thing that will be costly and serious. While correcting Mildred’s problem Kreed has one of his own, his years playing football have done damage to his knee and now it is worse than ever. Just one more financial problem amid all the others and making matters worse Kreed is backing away from everyone and everything including what once was the most important to him, his B & B.
Kreed is not a people person, Lucky is, and Kreed never realized the support his neighbors and friends give to him and his B & B. Not just his friends and neighbors but his guests who have come for years and willingly do whatever they can to help ease the trouble Kreed and Lucky are going through going as far as refusing to take money back if the B & B can’t accommodate them when repairs are made but to take a certificate to use in the future.
I really loved book one and now book two and simply because I loved all the characters both MC and secondary. Overcoming difficulties, overcoming past hurts and always ready with a coffee or cookie when needed. The first two books in this series must be read in order but the rest of the books are standalone.
