A truck bomb has wrecked Marcus Lancaster’s headquarters. Ruined are his company, home, and his expensive car collection. His employees, and his family, were in the building. Marcus rushes to search for Jesse, Castro, and Jean.

Lilly is waiting for the birth of her child and is torn between staying so Marcus can be involved in his child’s life or leaving to ensure her baby is safe. Isobel, Reba and Gregory are staying with her since she is beginning to have labor pains. Of course, Baron her vampire cat insists on being there for the birth of her kittens so he can clean them. Since I am sure you have been reading this series in order since in every review I suggested doing so. In saying this, then you are aware that Marcus almost killed Baron and Lilly turned Essex an angel that Marcus left near death leaving her the choice of letting him die or turning him.
Marcus is attending a fundraiser getting prepared to give his speech when the room shakes and it sounds like war with bombs going off. When he discovers that a building was bombed and it was his building filled with employees and Jesse his lover he runs to try to help. Lilly, Gregory, Reba and Isobel manage to get out of the building and find shelter at the church. Marcus is desperate to find Jesse and his most trusted friend Castro but getting into the building proves difficult.
In addition to finding his people he has to destroy the angels turned vampire that he has locked up before rescuers discover them. His life will never be the same because when he finds Castro it is only his head and even a vampire cannot come back from that. Jesse fortunately is found alive but finding Castro the way he did has left him in uncontrollable anger and hurt and he knows exactly who to turn that anger towards the human Mishkoph who has wanted to take his company. Marcus doesn’t keep his hatred secret because he threatens Mishkoph live on TV.
Isobel has finally had enough of Marcus and frees the ex-angels who join Lilly at the church and when Archangel Mikhail arrives he has plans on where he will send them all and where Lilly can have her child. Mikhail refuses to call the ex-angels Fallen because they had no choice in what happened to them so he calls them the Lost. He is determined to find a way to save them. One catastrophe after another, betrayals in Heaven, Baron hurt from the explosion and Sullivan dying after a fight with a demon and being badly burned. Vampires are capturing angels and turning them with a focus on building an army to overtake Heaven.
Heaven is in trouble, angels are in trouble and through it all a vampire is going to have a child, unheard of but happening. Betrayals, secrets and a vampire cat who brings some comic relief to a dark story. There is a cliffhanger, and yes, I hate them but this series and the characters ease the pain lol.
