Cassie Evans is more than your average supernatural hunter.
Cassie's the daughter of a fallen angel, who vows to protect the innocent and defends the veil between the supernatural and humankind with fierce determination. Whilst investigating supernatural disturbances, she expects to find herself faced with monsters, or irate supernatural beasts. But this time it’s different.
A seer warns of a threat to the delicate peace between good and evil. Demonic forces are gathering. Unlikely alliances are forming, seeking to tip the balance in their favor. War is coming and no one is safe.
To face these dark and malevolent creatures, Cassie will have to team up with a British, fiery-tempered witch and her occult expert husband. The problem is they parted on bad terms.
And they are both her ex’s.

This is my first book by Nita Round and I am looking forward to reading more of her work. I found myself drawn into this supernatural world that has been created and enjoying the story from start to finish.
A plot that is quickly established with the main character, Cassie, being given information that sets her off on a quest to stop basically the opening of hell on earth. However, being from the house of the seers, she isn’t able to use anyone’s help that may be linked in some way. This makes it feel a little bit like a rag tag group that comes together but also eventually like a found family with how close they have to work and what they go through.
I’d say this is an urban fantasy, paranormal story that has angels, demons, magic, shifters, faeries and necromancers. Luckily, the author doesn’t overwhelm the readers with information. Instead, is an entertaining read that keeps you engaged as one clue leads you to another, and another before the big finale. Things can get dark as the main group are attacked by demons, injuries are incurred, and there is a kidnapping off page, but friendships are made and strengthened and Cassie and the group work their way towards saving the world.
Cassie is clearly used to mostly working alone as her interactions with those around her seem short, at least until she has been around people for a while. We start with the twins who are also part of House Aevrael, not as strong as Cassie who is a direct descendant of the fallen angel but helpful in their own ways. Then things get complicated after Cassie is told about something that needs to be stopped but with very little detail that leads her to her exes, Dante and Jude, who are now married. Quite a few tense moments there and a couple of things that surprise even Cassie as they help her move forward and plan her next move. We even have a vicar that proves to be quite helpful in certain situations and a very good host when supplying tea and toast. Though, I think my favourite is Evalina, quite the little faerie.
A recommended read for those who enjoy a great storyline set in an urban fantasy world with paranormal creatures and magic abound.
