And now, we might lose our house, as well.Luckily, an ad in the paper helps me regain some hope. I have something to barter with that not many courtesans have, after all, and it just might be enough to earn what’s needed to secure my future as a successful Blood Courtesan. Neriza Swan’s life is in trouble, three months ago her parents were both killed in a car crash which left her sister Nina crippled from the waist down and to properly care for her sister she needs money.

The only recourse she had was to apply to be a blood courtesan and being a virgin makes her even more desirable. She is now in her second interview and surprised to learn that she has already gotten the job and she is contracted to her childhood idol Lyric Rivers, the rock star she has always dreamed about. Her contract is for six months while the band is on tour. Ready, willing and able to lose her virginity, she is shocked when Lyric announces he is sending her back.

Lyric finds her beautiful, smart, sexy and a definite no on his list of what he wants in a blood courtesan, a virgin. He refuses to touch her or feed from her and if he returns her, he will find himself on the bad side of the madam who sets him up when he needs a courtesan, so he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

When Neriza receives a letter to Lyric’s home advising her of her father’s involvement with a Mexican drug cartel and their demands for the money he owes and for deeds he is in possession of her life, the life of her sister and all those residing in Lyric’s home are in danger. Lyric has heard of the leader El Eterno and knows that even if everything is returned Neriza and her sister will probably die.

Lyric has promised to protect Neriza and her sister despite not wanting her for blood and sex. His attraction to her is so powerful that he has difficulty staying away from her, but he is convinced if he takes her blood, he will kill her. Something from his past has kept him from taking blood from a virgin even when he is wasting away without fresh blood.

Neriza’s father has left her with nothing, no money, a disabled sister and a house that she will soon lose. Unfortunately, where the deeds are is a mystery, she has no idea, and the gang has already stripped the house looking for them with no success. Lyric has guards watching over her sister and Neriza wants to desperately repay him, but he keeps refusing her until she comes up with a plan that will change his mind.

This was an amazing book, and I couldn’t put it down. It was a unique take on how vampires obtain blood, and it is costly. Lyric’s past is explained, and the ending was a total surprise.
