Kara and Kilem, rival prank-playing Firebrand warriors, receive orders to pack their bags. In this enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance, their commander has had his fill of their antagonistic games and sends them on a dangerous mission to another realm. As they hunt for escaped prisoners, their spicy banter turns to steamy encounters while secrets from the past threaten to unravel everything they thought they knew.

Kara is an Amazon preparing to train the newbies, she is a severe taskmaster except with her fellow warriors. Of course, there is one Firebrand she shows nothing but contempt for, Kilem the warlock. Kara and Kilem constantly play pranks on each other i.e. this morning she put on her cream only to turn green.
Kilem gives as good as he gets because Kara puts itching powder on his soap causing an uproar when the Firebrands got together since some of them borrowed his soap. Tired of the constant pranks causing chaos, their boss called them in to inform them that they were going on an assignment, just the two of them.
They are going to hunt three escapees from the Outcast Keep in Darque. A beserker, a vampire and an Amazon and hunt them in the most dangerous realm where the Outcast Keep is. Finding the escapees while fighting to stay alive from all the monsters that reside in that realm will not be easy.
Kara and Kilem also have to keep from giving into their animosity toward each other. Making things difficult for Kara since she must feed energy to Kilem when he runs low.
They call a truce, and Kara tries to hide her true feelings while Kilem hides nothing.
This was a rather short story, but it lacked nothing. The Firebrands series is one of my favorites and any book about them gets my attention. There are secrets, surprises and the constant verbal communication between the two was fun.
If you are not familiar with this series, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
