Lord Valadon, CEO of ValCorp and leader of New York’s vampires, has become fascinated with Miranda Crescent, a human woman with powers only Elementals possess. As his enemies conspire against him, he becomes drawn to her, but knows any involvement with Miranda will only endanger her life because within the human population exists the Human Order of Light, a powerful hate group, who would see the eradication of the vampires.
Miranda Crescent is an authenticator of rare works of art who isn’t afraid of danger. Her best friend is the Were Queen and her mentor is a vampire ancient. At first, resistive to Valadon’s charms, she will risk her life to bring him the information he needs to thwart his enemies.
But Valadon’s second, the sexy and sarcastic Remare, believes Miranda is a member of the HOL working to destroy his lord. The chemistry between them quickly escalates as they search for those plotting against Valadon. But Remare’s first loyalty is to his lord. He can’t allow himself to care for someone Valadon has marked as his own…or can he?

Lord Valodon is the leader of New York’s vampires, handsome, rich and powerful and he has an interest in Miranda Crescent, an authenticator of rare works of art. After doing some work for Valodon, Miranda discovered she had left her purse at ValCorp and was understandably angry when Valodon insisted she come to retrieve it on her own. There was no way he couldn’t send a messenger to bring it to her but if she wanted her purse she had no choice, cursing him silently all the way there.
Miranda finds herself alone with Valodon and witnesses a helicopter outside the window. Without hesitation she jumps in front of Valodon taking the dart meant for him. This heroic act would change her life forever and involve her in the inner workings of the vampire world. Gabriel is the doctor treating her injury and finds himself attracted to her beauty and selflessness. Gabriel is a turned vampire, turned by Valodon without his permission and who has resented it ever since, working tirelessly to find a way to become human again.
Miranda’s is very familiar with the paranormal world since her best friend Lizandra is the Were Queen. Valodon wants Miranda, Remare, Valadon’s second distrusts her and she finds herself faced with danger from those wishing Valodon dead. The dart Miranda was shot with contained a poison not harmful to her but would have affected a vampire. When Miranda is offered the job of cataloguing all Valodon’s artwork she would come face to face with pure evil, Mulciber an ancient and ambassador assigned to oversee the financials of ValCorp. Mulciber is a vampire hungry for revenge. When a sunblock produced by ValCorp enabling vampires to go into the sun was believed to be safe Mulciber couldn’t wait to try it, unfortunately it didn’t work, and his face was so disfigured hewore a mask.
Valodon’s enemies are many, HOL (Human Order of Light) an organization determined to destroy all vampires, Mulciber an ancient hungry for revenge and traitors within Valodon’s own house. Miranda can’t keep from investigating who is involved with HOL and is determined to keep Valodon safe which puts her in jeopardy as well as friends she turns to for information.
Miranda is unlike other humans since she is empathic and has elemental powers and she would eventually have to use her elemental powers letting her walls down. She is not afraid for herself but fears for those she cares about, and she will come face to face with evil the likes of which she could never have imagined. Rogue vampires are leaving bodies drained of blood and covered in bite marks, even young children have become victims.
I loved this book, a vampire series that I just can’t wait to keep reading. Great vampire series don’t come along too often and when one does, I add the series and the author to my list of favorites. Secrets, surprises, romance, sex, betrayal and violence everything you would expect from a story involving Weres and vampires. The characters were amazing, both the main ones and the secondary ones, and I look forward to learning more about them all.
