Set in a post-apocalyptic world where only men survived, White Heat unfolds the story of childhood sweethearts, Sian and Avila, whose relationship is outlawed. Their story is shared with the reader as Vale, a student exploring the history of his world, reads Sian’s journal, which reveals the dark past of the Heat of Love universe.
As Vale faces his own personal challenges, he finds solace in Sian and Avila’s tale. Vale is a very relatable character, whose independence and determination keep the reader turning pages to see how he will gather inspiration from the journal.
The parallel themes running between the events in Sian’s journal and Vale’s life experiences showcase how the world has changed since Sian’s time and how more change can benefit omegas like Vale. The passion that develops between Sian and Avila inspires Vale’s desire to have a similar experience despite his independent nature.
This book reads well as a standalone but also serves as an excellent introduction to the Heat of Love series because it explores some of the history of how the world evolved into the one in which Vale currently resides.
The conclusion of the story shares the ultimate resolution to Sian and Avila’s tale and introduces the next big event in Vale’s life. If you are looking for an omegaverse story of forbidden love and intense passion, this is a wonderful read that will leave you wanting to hunt down the rest of the series before you finish the last page.
