This book was an unexpected treat because it is a genre I love, werewolves, and it takes place in the tenth century. Erin Richardson is a twenty-first century archaeologist on an excavation that is searching for clues as to the death of Gaharetd’Louncrais a Chevalier in the tenth century. While most of the team left for the day she decided to stay and do a little more searching, a decision that would forever change her life.
She discovered human bones and the skull of a wolf. While holding the wolf’s head a pendant dropped out which no one had discovered before and which she was overjoyed with. Curious over the pendant she uses her cell to find whatever she can about it, especially the language written on it. In her excitement she cuts her finger bleeding on the pendant and is afraid to use anything to clean it off that could harm the piece.
Finally, she reads the message then everything turns pitch black. She can hardly see so she leans against a wall for safety trying to get out. Now the real adventure begins, a naked man is standing in front of her a man she recognizes as Gaharetd’Louncrais, who must be doppelganger since he died in the tenth century but whatever her mind imagined it was not that she had time traveled. Now her only thought is how to get back home.
Gaharet is titled, rich, has property and is the owner of the Langeais Keep. All that is information Erin has been very aware of since studying him, what she was not aware of was that he is the Alpha to his werewolf pack, something no one would even consider possible in the twenty-first century. It is no secret that werewolves who find their mate will do everything to keep them and that is what Gaharet plans on doing but he is not dealing with an average tenth century female he is dealing with a woman who is used to getting her way, won’t let any man talk down to her and will stand her ground.
Erin knows that someone died in a cell underground but doesn’t know if it was Gaharet now she wants to prevent his death, find a way back and try not to enrage the powers that be, I.e. Comte Lothair. She has read all about him and his reputation of an evil man with little or no redeeming qualities. Gaharet is his confidant regardless of the fact he must tread lightly when around him. His biggest danger comes from Archereque Renaud who is aware of the existence of werewolves and wants to reveal it to the Comte.
What would be better than to have an army of werewolves and who better to create them than their alpha. While Erin cares for Gaharet she is still consumed with returning home, running water, toilets, lights and wearing whatever she wants. On the other hand, he knows she is his mate and wants her to marry him. Due to Renauds killing spree of werewolves the packs numbers have fallen and children are necessary to increase their numbers so marrying is the first step to achieve that goal. Lies, secrets, romance, surprises and betrayal.
Loved this story and there are still things I want to know hopefully book two will give me those answers this is not a cliffhanger but there is more to come. When I receive a book to read and review, I am always happy when it is a book that I enjoy but not one that I become obsessed about, this was an obsessed book which means not putting it down until it is finished, lack of sleep, no time to eat and having to force myself to get up to go to the bathroom. Now I finished and can go back to a normal routine, but it was fun, and a must read.
