Release Day for award winning author Davidson King….. Reading this story I must say this author has many topics she shares in her stories. It’s been heavy lately with murder, mayhem and mob bosses. Hurt Me Not is the balm for her readers, living in this complicated world we now inhabit.
Easton Kooper is a Lt in a local fire department in the small town of Fool’s Pass. His second job are raising his two children after losing his wife 3 years ago, when she died when a motorist hit her riding a bike and she was killed. The horror of this hurt the family deeply and Tru 13 and Milo 10 are finally settling into a life where Dad can be there for them more often changing his work schedule.
When Milo goes for his school check up and they run blood work, the Doctor calls Easton to ask if he can bring Milo over to the hospital immediately to draw more blood as they hope what they are seeing is wrong. As a parent myself, that call is chilling. Milo is scared and the person they meet at the hospital is going to change their lives.
Finch is the nurse on duty. He has blue hair, he is Fae but hides his wings and ears so he humans will not find out, Healing and his patients are his life as he is part of the Light Fae, not the Fae that lives in the Darkness like his Father and his sister and brothers.
Milo at 10 is very frightened of his surroundings and what all entails, Finch calms him and explains he is Magic and Milo will not be hurt (as he magically masks his pain). Finch knows the rules for him to remain in this world…..Do not fall in love with a human. He has been able to keep that until now, until Easton and the two children. This sweet story brings us to the good vs the evil. Finch slowly becoming more and more invested in this family; then invested in Easton as well.
With Finch’s Mother being the leader of The Light Fae and his Father the leader of the Dark, it seems there will be danger brewing and more at stake with danger for all of them. But Finch told Milo when they met that the words Hurt Me Not was Magic and he wouldn’t lie to the young boy. Would He?
Adorable story, 5 stars
