Roman Lee is a vampire and a warlock who met his mate when she was ten years old and came to the carnival where he is the ringmaster. Mariah Stone was born with a hideous birthmark on her face which made her the butt of constant bullying and teasing. When her parents refused his financial help so she could have surgery, and with her request for his help he and the witches at the carnival take a piece of his flesh and his blood and make her whole.
Roman knew after sharing flesh and blood with Mariah that she was his mate but when she grew up she disappeared from his life without so much as a goodbye. He has suffered ever since and finally took to laying in the ground drinking just enough and removing himself from everyone until the day Mariah came back begging for forgiveness and explaining why she left. She has a secret she refuses to share with him and when he turns her away she is determined to find a witch who will remove the spell freeing him to find another love.
It is her determination to free him that sets the wheels in motion for a decision Roman will make, a decision that could change lives in more ways than one.
