Lochan and Ervyn—an assassin and a sharpshooter—remain in service to the queen as part of an elite reconnaissance unit.
The Scouts are ghostlike. Elusive. Deadly.
They strike at enemies of the Crown without mercy. They get the job done, leaving no loose ends or witnesses. When Magic Supremacists threaten the safety of Elven Country, they do their duty—whatever it takes.
Lochan and Ervyn belong to each other, but will serving together as comrades-in-arms strengthen their bond as lovers or tear them apart?

The Scouts is the third book in the Order Series. In this volume, Ervyn loses control, Lochan stops fighting his feelings and Verhan… well, remains Verhan.
Recommended reading order: The Mutt, The Highlander, Twenty-One Arrow Salute, The Scouts.

The Scouts continues the story of Ervyn and Lochan, now into their third year working with the Scouts, the elite and secretive band of the Queen’s army. There’s a good balance between plot and relationship development between the two elves.

Ervyn and Lochan have grown a lot closer in the time since their previous book. I really felt the strong bond they shared along with the heightened attraction that can spark at, occasionally, inopportune moments. There’s a good mix of emotions from jealousy and fear to joy and love. Their missions can be danger but they get to spend most of their time together, especially nights, which is a reward in itself but it’s lead how much they also both enjoy their job.

The Magic element keeps people on their toes, with the danger it poses and their possible inability to defend against it so I’m interest see how that unfolds in the next book.

At least, most of the time. this book does bring them a task that really puts them to the test but is something that their team has been working towards for months and is for the safety and protection of their Queen and country. It’s a real heart in mouth moment for Ervyn and the reader, as we await the outcome.

The author’s writing continues to bring the story to life with wonderful imagery of the settings and easily conveying the characters thoughts and emotions. It really helps to draw you in and become engaged with everything going on. It’s also great having Verhan making an appearance along with his boyfriend, Hernan. Ervyn’s close bond with his cousin is obvious and it’s good to read Lochan reaching out to talk with Hernan, definitely not something he is known for, preferring to be the silent and brooding type.

A great continuation of the series, moving those has along quickly but still allowing for a high amount of detail.
