Caught in Queen Magritte’s snare and forced to wed someone he loathes, Lord Valadon, King of the vampires in New York, enlists the aid of two of his most powerful allies to thwart the plans of the Queen of All Vampires. Learning that his son survived, but unable to ascertain his whereabouts, he will call upon his trusted friends to locate the one person who can stop his upcoming marriage.

Meanwhile, Remare’s return is hardly what Miranda has been dreaming about. With her association with Guy de Montglat revealed, her relationships with Remare and Valadon become strained. If she wants to keep her dreams alive, she will have to choose who to give her oath of loyalty—to her own bloodline or to the vampire who holds her heart.

Everyone has secrets, right? Remare knows this, but the secrets Miranda has been keeping threaten to tear them apart. Only through trust can their love survive. Now he must find a way to earn her trust or risk losing her forever. A situation that will not bode well for House Valadon.

Wow this series just gets better and better and this book so aptly named revealed so many secrets I was blown away. Miranda’s Elemental powers are continuing to evolve, Remare will be returning to New York and at long last Valadon has accepted that Miranda loves Remare and not him and he is embracing their relationship.

Valadon is preparing for his marriage to Vivienne, a marriage orchestrated by Queen Magritte the Supreme Leader in France. Magritte has promised to reveal the location of the son Valadon has recently become aware of, the son his long-lost love Lena gave birth to and a son he was led to believe died at birth. Only the chance of being reunited with his son would Valadon agree to this marriage. As Valadon’s wife Vivienne and Magritte envision taking over ValCorp but Valadon has other ideas.

Miranda is once again welcome to use Valadon’s archives until a photograph of her with Guy de Montglat comes to his attention. Montglat was the number one spy for the council, and he is in New York without advising Valadon or asking for permission. Remare’s arrival should have been a happy time for Miranda, only he and Valadon now question her loyalty despite how many times she has proved herself. Miranda is having trouble coming to terms with Valadon and Remare’s reactions to her friendship with Guy de Montglat and when she reveals her true relationship with him things come to a head.

The wedding preparations are underway, things with Miranda are settled and Valadon has made sure that none of ValCorp’s assets can fall into Vivienne or Magritte’s hands. Valadon’s son is closer than he thinks, and he has already befriended someone Valadon is close to, it truly is a small world. Unbeknownst to anyone an assassin has infiltrated the wedding, a shot is fired but who is the intended target, not something I will reveal.

This book was amazing. We learnt about Valadon’s past and the time he spent with Vivienne and Magritte, a time filled with pain, mistrust and betrayal. So much happened that it was impossible for me to put the book down. Surprises, secrets, violence and new allies and enemies. I can’t imagine what comes next, but I already have the next book in my possession ready to dig in and be shocked and surprised.
