Jaded police detective Mike Palmer has been trying to take down suspected bank robber Donovan Carter for eighteen months. However, this pales in comparison when Mike's ex-wife threatens to take their daughter away to another country and he needs a lawyer to fight her for custody. Mike turns to Donovan for money and is enlisted by him to help pull off his next heist.

Donovan has his own problems too; under the thumb of a dangerous gangster forcing him to perform the heists to pay off a debt and desperate to keep his crimes hidden from his wife. As the former adversaries work together on Donovan's biggest heist to date, they also have Mike's partner Jade Edmonds closing in, hoping to take them down.

Mike Palmer is a detective inspector in the Metropolitan Flying Squad and for almost two years he has been trying to catch Donovan Carter. Mike knows that Donovan is the one responsible for all the bank robberies and with information from an informant he is certain that this time Donovan will be in handcuffs. The informant’s information was accurate, and Mike and his force waited outside the bank for Donovan and his men to exit, unfortunately, Donovan slipped through his hands once again.

Mike failed in catching Donovan, he failed in his marriage and is as low as he can go. Making it even worse, Mike’s partner Jade has been given the lead in the investigation and she is everything Mike isn’t. Jade is a go-getter determined to climb the ladder while Mike is burnt out. Mike is still a cop at heart but when his wife plans to take their eight-year-old daughter to live in America he knows the only chance of stopping it is with a good attorney which takes money. With no credit, no money he has one chance and that is to ask Donovan. Blood was found at the last bank job and Mike is willing to give it to Donovan for a price, a price Donovan is ready, willing and able to meet.

Mike thought he had an easy way out of his situation but that doesn’t turn out to be the case, he needs the money and to get it he must join the gang in their next big robbery. Mike sinks lower and lower and unfortunately for him Jade is ready to take him down. Every move he makes his partner is right behind him gathering evidence.

Mike and Donovan are both behind the eight ball, Donovan owes a debt to a man who protected him for the ten years he was in prison and the man wants to be repaid and will determine when enough is enough. Mike wants to be able to see his daughter and the idea of losing her led to him betraying his oath as a policeman.

This was such an interesting story as it follows two men, a policeman and a bank thief while they fight to protect their families. Donovan has twin girls and an infant son, and he fears retaliation if he doesn’t honor his debt. Mike has an eight-year-old daughter that may be taken away from him for good, it is true everyone has their price.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good crime story because this one follows every moment of planning and carrying out a huge bank robbery. I loved the characters and rooted for the bad guys, shame on me lol.
